The High line
The High line is an elevated park that runs from Gansevoort street (three blocks below 14th St) to 34th st. The park was built on an old railroad track and has been recently fully completed. The park is open year round and the hours it's open are
Dec 1 to Apr 1: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Apr 1 to May 31: 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM
June 1 to Sept 30: 7:00 AM- 11:00 PM
Oct 1 to Nov 30: 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM
The High line offers a couple of different things to do. On your walk through the park you can visit food vendors, look at the paintings/graffiti on the buildings, look at the Hudson river, walk through the gardens, and take a break at some rest areas like the one above. The food usually isn't the cheapest, but if you want to spoil yourself or get just a small thing then go right ahead.
Coming here to explore and for a nice walk is a great idea and its a fun way to see something new. You span from the meatpacking district up to Chelsea so you can experience a couple of interesting neighborhoods (If you haven't explored these areas i highly recommend it). I suggest trying to go when its day time and when its night time. It feels like two totally different places. During the day you get to see the beauty of the park and the water, but at night you get to see thew beauty of the city from the Park's point of view. I highly recommend this place to everybody because it is just a really cool place. You can impress all your friends when they come to visit you and they ask for you to show them the city.
One of my favorite places!
