Traveling throughout New York City can be accomplished in many different ways. Walking to places, taking a taxi, buses, and of course the subways are all popular options. I find that I use the subways and walking to get to where I need to go the most. Whether to get groceries, visit friends, or even just exploring, traveling is a must and I'm going to try to help you make a decision that best fits your needs.
If you're a person that has to travel a lot to get to school or get to a job on a regular basis, then purchasing a monthly subway pass is the best way to get the most out of your money. If you're school is near you and you aren't too adventurous yet, maybe use the single ride option to start off. There are multiple options to accommodate you. The fares for subways are as followed:
- Subway card $1.00 (refillable)
- Single ride-$2.75
- 7 day pass - $31.00
- 30 day pass- $116.50
The subway can take you to pretty much anywhere in Manhattan and to a lot of the other boroughs of New York City. There is so much to see throughout the city and using the subway is a fast and inexpensive way of taking you there. charging $5.50 to get from the bottom of Manhattan to get to Central park and back is a pretty good deal to me. But, if you don't want to explore the city quite yet and try to get you're bearings down first, that's perfectly fine. I highly suggest exploring the city though because its a cool place and you can see some pretty interesting things. From mostly naked singers in Times square, to crazy people talking to themselves on the side streets. Take it all in because you wont see this behavior anywhere else besides New York.

ReplyDeleteAwesome advice! The subway system is relatively cheap when you think about how much travel you can get out of it.
ReplyDeleteAs a native New Yorker, the subway is essential. Life saving stuff you got here.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely say that the Subway, although incredibly dirty and sometimes inefficient, is one of the biggest selling points to NYC. Driving a car comes with so many different expected and unexpected costs. Great post.
